Summary of 2006/2007
Season
Renmore Under 18 team were crowned
the Galway & District League Champions for 2006/2007 after
they defeated their near neighbours Mervue United 3:1 in the
league playoff. Both clubs finished their league campaigns
undefeated (having drawn in their previous league fixture
3:3). In front of a large crowd in Renmore the home club
perservered after going one goal down. However that was
quickly cancelled out with a good finish from Alex Lee before
the half time break. In the second half Renmore contested
every ball and were rewarded with a penalty after the ball was
handled in the box . Again Alex Lee dispatched the ball to the
Mervue net. Renmore had to withstand a lot of Mervue pressure
before they hit them with a quick break and Enda Burke was put
in on goal by Dave O’Connell and he made no mistake with his
shot. Celebrations were in full swing from then as the referee
brought the tie to a close.
The Under 18 team also had a
very successful run in the Connaught Cup competition reaching
the semi-Final
stage where they played the eventual winners Castlebar
Celtic. In fairness this was a very strong Castlebar side and
they won the game easily 4:0, they also went on to win the
Irish Youth Cup. The Renmore team were under strength on the
day but battled gamely to the finish.
